Sonoro is a new Wimbledon-based professional chamber choir, founded by local musicians Neil Ferris and Michael Higgins. Sonoro is made up of some of the country’s finest professional choral singers and the choir has already attracted attention for its distinctive warm tone, rich blend of colours and vibrancy in performance.

 

Rachmaninoff’s ‘Vespers’ stands as the supreme achievement in the music of the Russian Orthodox Church, featuring music of uplifting spiritual strength. Join Sonoro for their concert performance on Thursday 22 September, 8:00-9:30pm at the church of the Sacred Heart, Wimbledon, the perfect setting for this monumental work.

Sonoro will perform in the area once again as they open this year’s Wimbledon International Music Festival with a performance of David Fanshawe’s African Sanctus. The opening concert by Sonoro will also include Cecilia McDowall’s A Time for all Seasons and features the Wimbledon Youth Choir; Merton Music Foundation Young Voices; Backbeat Percussion; Maureen Braithwaite (soprano); Tommy Emmerton and Geth Griffiths (guitars); Michael Higgins (piano); and conductor Neil Ferris. The concert takes place on 12 November at Sacred Heart, Wimbledon at 8.15pm.

 

Future concerts for Sonoro include a programme for music for Advent entitled O Radiant Dawn, which will be performed at St James’s, Piccadilly on Friday 25 November, and Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols at London’s King’s Place on Sunday 18 December.
