For the new Yamaha U3S upright piano, Yamaha uses a more robust iron frame which is visually more appealing. Yamaha engineering also developed a unique Extruded Aluminium Alloy Action Rail (bearing a Yamaha patent). This new rail has been one of the best innovations for improving a piano action in the last 100 years. As a result, periodic changes in the weather no longer cause fluctuations in the wood rails, affecting touch. The improved rails also allow for stable, long-lasting action regulation. Additionally, Yamaha reinforced the crown in its soundboards to ensure that the tone quality will remain for years and years, improving tuning stability.

Highest quality construction

Yamaha uses Spruce for the keys on all models of pianos, including the Yamaha U3S upright piano. Spruce is very light and possesses a very high ratio of strength to weight. This makes it ideal for key construction, even though its cost is significantly more than either sugar pine or basswood. Yamaha keyboards respond quickly, providing fast repetition for the most intricate piece of music.

The U3’s height is 131cm tall. A taller piano can house longer strings and a larger soundboard, which is excellent for producing good tone quality. In fact, the U3S possesses longer bass strings than a standard baby grand!
