 Thanks to a comprehensive redesign, the Yamaha U3 SH2 Silent Upright Piano remains not only a world-standard instruments, but is also better than ever, factory fitted with the latest Silent system, with numerous advances in materials and construction.

Refined scale designs and components improve tonal performance. Extra-wide music desks provide plenty of room for sheet music. The top-of-the-line sets extraordinary standards of elegance and excellence, incorporating concepts adapted from Yamaha grand pianos.  For the new U3 Yamaha use V-Pro (Vacuum Shield Mold Process) in casting the iron frame (plate). V-Pro plates are stronger and visually more appealing. Critical dimensions are produced more accurately than before.  Furthermore, Yamaha engineering developed a unique Extruded Aluminium Alloy Action Rail (bearing a Yamaha patent) that is one of the best innovations for improving a piano action in the last 100 years. The usual fluctuations in wood rails that effect touch, caused by periodic weather changes, are eliminated allowing stable, long-lasting action regulation.  In addition Yamaha have reinforced the crown in its soundboards by using ribs that continue to the edge of the soundboard, and are glued into the notched liner (or inner rim on the grand piano). Reinforcing the crown ensures that the tone quality will remain for years and years and improves tuning stability.  Yamaha uses Spruce for the keys on all models of pianos. Spruce is very light and possesses a very high ratio of strength to weight. It is ideal for key construction, even though its cost is greater than either sugar pine or bass wood. Yamaha keyboards respond quickly providing fast repetition for the most intricate piece of music.   In particular, the U3’s height is a very healthy 131cm tall.  A taller piano is also able to house a not only longer strings but also a larger soundboard which again is good for producing good tone quality, and in fact the U3 possess longer bass strings than a standard baby grand!

The Yamaha U3 SH2 Silent Upright Piano samples the world-renowned Yamaha CFIIIS sound source to deliver an equally superb, digital recreation of the acoustic piano.  Choose from the CFIIIS Concert Grand Piano in addition to 9 further voices, including Harpsichord, Pipe Organ and Strings. With the Silent System you’re still retaining the same feel since the hammers are still being thrown (just not striking the strings).  You can also record your performance or practice, and play back thanks to the USB connectivity. There are also connections for plugging in an MP3 player so you can play along with your favourite tracks, and MIDI connections if you want to connect the Piano to a computer, sampler or other MIDI compatible device.  Once you plug headphones into the sound engine located on the left hand side of the piano, underneath the keyboard, the piano will stop operating acoustically and an internal sound engine will take over.
