The Yamaha 645 offers powerful sound and a superb wooden keyboard offer unprecedented levels of versatility to pianists of all abilities. With CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial piano sample, CFX Binaural sampling, the acclaimed NWX Natural Wood keyboard and advanced wireless, amplification and connectivity features the 645 is an impressive new addition to the Yamaha 600 series.
The Yamaha Clavinova CLP 645 Digital Piano is the new version of the CLP 545. It packs the CLP 635’s features of an improved VRM system, improved body resonance, acoustic optimiser and 36 available voices, but adds new improvements mainly focusing on the sound and playability of the Clavinova.
The Yamaha Clavinova CLP 645 Digital Piano boasts the impressive upgrades of a 60 watt amplification / speaker system, giving a fuller bodied sound at lower volume levels. This istwice the number of speakers found in the lower range models, giving a clearer, richer and more defined sound. Particularly useful when practising at moderate volumes at home, it’s a significant improvement on what its younger siblings in the CLP 600 series offer. Enhanced headphone sound output with binaural sampling further improves the 645’s delivery of room-filling sound.
For the first time in 21 years Yamaha have completely sought to redesign the keyboard action. The Yamaha Clavinova CLP 645 Digital Piano’s key action now exactly replicates the increased dynamic range of a real grand piano. Further upgrades of NWX (Natural Wood X) keyboard and synthetic ebony / ivory keytops (wood for the white keys) pitches the CLP 645 as a great middle point between the GH3X keyboards of the 625 and 635 and the advanced keyboards of the 675 and 685.
The CLP 645’s wireless bluetooth audio connectivity is another great addition. You can stream the sound of your MP3 player, tablet wirelessly, or backing tracks (using Yamaha’s Notestar app) to the CLP645’s high quality audio system. The CLP 600 Series’improved screen interface and control system makes doing so significantly simpler and more intuitive to navigate. Finally, the 600 series have had the 36 available digital voices improved, with the important addition of the C7 studio grand piano added.
The Yamaha Clavinova CLP 645 Digital Piano offers fantastic value for money, given it features many of the advanced features of the high end CLP 600 series, but remains within an affordable price range.

CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial piano samples
With two world-renowned concert grand pianos available at the touch of a button, the CLP Series lets you choose the perfect piano tone for the music you want to play. Offering far more than just sampled sounds, the CLP-600 Series reproduces the Yamaha CFX concert grand and the legendary Bosendorfer Imperial in meticulous detail. Originally founded in 1828, Bösendorfer holds a unique position amongst piano makers as the only manufacturer in the world still utilizing the Viennese tradition of hand-crafted design that produces the uniquely warm bass, singing treble and rich tonal colors known as the “Viennese Sound”. Famed composers as Brahms and Johann Strauss have influenced the development of Bösendorfer pianos, resulting in an instrument lauded as the only piano capable of withstanding the frenetic playing of Franz Liszt. Bösendorfer became part of the Yamaha Group in 2008 and since 2014 the Bösendorfer Imperial’s revered tone has been a feature of the Clavinova CLP Series.
CFX Binaural sampling
Yamaha’s flagship 9’ concert grand piano, the CFX, offers sparkling highs and a powerful resonant bass with a sound that projects to the furthest reaches of any concert hall.
Improved VRM (Virtual Resonance Modeling)
In a grand piano, sound resonates throughout the body of the instrument, producing a rich reverberation that envelops the listener in sound. This phenomena is reproduced perfectly in the Clavinova through enhanced Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM).
Smooth Release Technology
From staccato to legato—superbly expressive sound that responds to the player’s touch.Featuring Yamaha Smooth Release technology, the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 645 Digital Piano offers the crisp tone heard when playing staccato as well as the lingering sound produced by releasing the keys more. This therefore provides finely-nuanced response to the pianist’s playing.
Smooth tonal transformations perfectly matched to key pressure: Sound in an acoustic piano attenuates over a long time. Pianists can change the volume of the sound—as well as its dynamics—to achieve both mellow and bright tones by simply changing the pressure they apply to the keys. The Yamaha Clavinova CLP 645 Digital Piano features long, carefully-sampled recordings of notes on a piano, reproduces them in rich detail and utilizes unique Yamaha technologies to achieve smooth tonal transitions in response to the touch of the player. Additionally, Yamaha have repeatedly tested the ClP 645 to attain a performance feel similar to that of a grand piano.
Key-Off samples
The moment a pianist’s fingers are lifted from the keys of a grand piano, subtle changes occur in the instrument’s tone as the damper is lowered onto the strings to mute its sound. Key-Off samples features actual recordings of these changes, offering a faithful reproduction of the most subtle changes in the piano’s sound, allowing for a more realistic performance.
Full body resonance
Similar to an acoustic piano, the CLP 645 is calibrated carefully to ensure that the entire instrument resonates optimally. Tone Escapement enables a sound image that is very close to the grand piano. This means that in several locations throughout the body, sound from the speakers project to the listener’s ears. Speaker positioning and body materials are also at the heart of the design. The higher-end models in the CLP-600 Series feature dedicated DSPs, amplifiers and speakers. Therefore since the output from each speaker arrives flawlessly at the performer’s ears in perfect synchrony, volume and quality.
String and Damper Resonance
Escapement
The escapement mechanism in a grand piano moves the hammers away from the strings quickly after they strike them. This is in order to prevent any interference with string vibration. When pressing keys gently, the mechanism produces a slight clicking sensation. Yamaha’s Real Grand Expression offers players superb sound, touch and pedaling. With this in mind they created an escapement that delivers outstanding playability, repetition, and response without impeding performance. The Clavinova keyboards feature an escapement mechanism that reproduces this sensation near the bottom of the key dip. This design hence means the click is discernible only on the lightest keystrokes, similar to a grand piano keyboard. These keyboards have therefore been adjusted to provide additional friction that balances key repetition and response without impeding performance.
Keyboard Stabilizers
Unique Yamaha mechanisms for improved keyboard stability and durability. The CLP 645’s keyboards now transform motion from your fingertips into sound. Therefore, each keyboard must be smooth to maintain superb touch for prolonged performances. Therefore Yamaha has fitted Keyboard Stabilizers to all 88 keys. As a result this offers players a natural touch whilst improving the stability and durability of the keyboard.

Acoustic Optimizer Technology
The speakers attached to the body exhibit a certain phenomenon. This means that if nothing is done, the volume of the sound will increase. This is due to the resonant frequency of the body. Conversely, installing pipes with the same resonant frequency within the body suppresses this resonance. Hence acoustic optimizers utilize this phenomenon.
Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC)
To adjust performance volume is extremely useful at home, where players may not be able to play loud. However, at low volumes, bass and treble may become difficult to hear. Therefore Yamaha has designed Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC). Consequently by adjusting the sound automatically, players can enjoy balanced sound at any volume level.
Stereophonic Optimizer
The Stereophonic Optimizer lets players using headphones enjoy the dispersed sound heard when sat in front of an acoustic piano. With the Stereophonic Optimizer, Voices sampled from acoustic pianos* appear to come from the body of the instrument. This provides a natural experience, removing the drawbacks of performing with headphones. * The CFX Voice utilizes binaural sampling technology.
