Challen Antique Baby Grand Piano, 1917 (Restored)

Overview:

This beautiful British-built Challen antique baby grand piano was constructed in 1917 in Finsbury Park, London. The piano has mahogany casework, a unique double legs design, and the original ivory & ebony key top covers. 

Initially restored by us approximately 20 years ago, we carried out the following work at the time: 

• New wrest plank (tuning pins block). This was necessary to stabilise the tuning. 
• New complete sets of strings and tuning pins.
• The iron frame was re-bronzed. 
• The hammer head felts were replaced in Germany to get the original mellow (classical) sound. 
• The front key bushings and balance rail washers (two sets) were replaced, in addition to the keybed felts and baize.

We recently took this unique Challen baby grand piano back in exchange for an upright piano as the family moved to a smaller property. It has now had a complete cleaning, regulating and tuning, and is ready to go to a new home. 

Please note this piano comes with the required exemption certification for the antique ivory keys.
