Undoubtedly, the ‘Chatsworth’ is the jewel in the crown of the Cavendish piano range. Cavendish Pianos are the only new pianos available built entirely in the traditional way using traditional materials. The 124 Cavendish Chatsworth Piano is a piano of heirloom quality which can proudly continue the tradition of British piano building.
Cavendish is the only British piano maker remaining in the UK, founded by husband and wife duo Adam and Charlie Cox. After 15 years in Leeds as Headingley Pianos, Cavendish’s piano shop and manufacturing base is now located on the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s estate at Bolton Abbey. Subsequently, the Duke and Duchess are the patrons of the company. Cavendish Pianos are made in Britain using a wide range of world-class British materials for the highest quality pianos. The company are committed to make use of the wealth of expert piano-making skills that still exists in Britain today. The company prides itself on its materials and their selection, their manufacturing accuracy and the human touch and craftsmanship that goes into a piano’s production.
Internally, Cavendish pianos use Renner Hammers and the soundboard is German made by Struntz from high grade spruce, both products are used on the world’s finest pianos. The case is cabinet-maker built in Yorkshire from solid walnut. The wood supplier, British Hardwoods, are based near the traditional cabinet making town of Thirsk, in the Yorkshire Dales. This is an entirely one-off process and thus, each piano has its own individual character. Of course, the process of selecting the wood and crafting it by hand is not suited to the modern, large assembly-line-based piano factory. For this reason, Cavendish are able to offer a truly unique product.
Another example of Cavendish’s use of premium British material is its cloth and felts. Manufactured by Hainsworth in Leeds, one of the oldest companies in the UK (established 1783), they’re of the finest quality. Hainsworth certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to textiles, their knowledge and heritage is legendary in the piano trade. The company have for a long time produced cloth and felt used in the manufacture of many German pianos such as Steinway. It’s no coincidence that one of the leading woollen mills should be in Leeds, famous throughout the world for its history of textile production.
