Antique C. Bechstein Grand Piano

This Antique C. Bechstein Grand Piano is the very height of what a quality, exquisite and beautiful piano should be. Made in Berlin in 1888, it has undergone a restoration and repolish by our in-house Piano restoration team, based out of our Wimbledon Piano workshop. With some unique casework features and a beautiful traditional Bechstein tone, this piano is truly a magnificent instrument and a centrepiece for any home.

This Antique C. Bechstein grand piano also has an excellently designed soundboard and iron frame which contribute further to such fantastic tone. In terms of touch, this piano is on the lighter side, allowing for clarity and ease when playing even the most technically brilliant and demanding passages.

About C. Bechstein Pianos

The piano manufacturing firm of C. Bechstein ¹ was established in 1853 by Carl Bechstein in Berlin, Germany, who developed his instruments during the heyday of 19th-century Romanticism. The legends of the keyboard who have played and endorsed Bechstein pianos include Hans von Bülow, Leopold Godowsky, and Wilhelm Bachkaus, some of the greatest names in music the world has ever known. Composer Claude Debussy highly prized Bechstein pianos and made the statement, “Piano music should only be written for the Bechstein.” Franz Liszt performed on many brands of pianos, but the Bechstein was always his first preference and the instrument he most consistently used. To date, Bechstein builds instruments at their finest.

Restoration Details

This Antique C. Bechstein Grand Piano has undergone restoration work at our in-house workshop in Wimbledon to restore it to the excellent interior and exterior condition you will find it in now, having had the following work carried out:

• All centre pins were replaced
• Hammers reshaped
• All parts have been fully checked
• Stripped down and repolished
• Regulated and tuned to concert pitch
