General Information

This is the first Wimbledon International Piano Competition sponsored by Hanna Pianos.

The Competition will be held on Saturday 23rd June 2018, 10am-6pm, at Hanna Pianos Studios, 92 Kingston Road, London, SW19 1LA.

The Winners Concert will be held on Sunday 24th June 2018, Time 16:00 – 18:00

Our love for music and specifically the piano has inspired us to host this international piano competition. We would like to bring together young and adult musicians and give them the opportunity to perform on a stage. This will be a unique opportunity for amateurs to enjoy themselves and share their passion for music with others in a fun, relaxed and non-professional environment.

The festival is adjudicated by Dr Sally Wave, M.M. and Mr Ken VirginMA.Oxon, CTABRSM. 

You do need to submit this information in advance.  You are requested to submit your application no later than 31st March 2018.

Entries are now open for this event.  We advise early entry, as all categories are expected to be fully booked, months ahead.  We only have a limited number of entrants per category.

Categories

You can compete in one of 4 categories:

Non-competitive beginner category - Duet.

A non-competitive class for all levels. Duet with either a teacher or a parent. Please choose one to two pieces of up to 2 minutes duration in total.Class timings will be confirmed in May 2018 once all entries have been received. The day will start with beginner classes and progress through to senior level classes later in the day. All performers  must use an original copy of the book. Photocopies for the adjudicator are not required.

Non-competitive category-Solo

A non-competitive class for all levels. Please choose one or two pieces of up to 2 minutes duration in total.

Participants may choose only two pieces from the latest graded exam syllabus valid for year 2018. The allowed exam books are ABRSM, TRINITY and LCM.

Please notice:

  • The 2 pieces should be from one book but from different lists (periods)
  • Students cannot perform a piece from a grade that they have already passed.
  • Own choice pieces are not permitted.

Please bring a photocopy of the piece for the adjudicator and announce your name and the composer of the piece being played .

Any participant who has not taken any exams before is FREE to choose any piece according to his / her level.   If you need any guidance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Participants may choose only two pieces from the latest graded exam syllabus valid for year 2018. The allowed exam books are ABRSM, TRINITY and LCM.

Please notice:

  • The 2 pieces should be from different lists (periods)
  • Students cannot perform a piece from a grade that they have already passed.
  • Own choice pieces are not permitted.

Please bring a photocopy of the piece for the adjudicator and announce your name and the composer of the piece being played .

Any participant who has not taken any exams before is FREE to choose any piece according to his / her level.   If you need any guidance please do not hesitate to contact us.

If an incorrect class is entered, you will have to purchase a new ticket. We do not offer refunds for any reason so do ensure you have checked with your teacher before choosing a class. Classes may be combined with adjacent grades depending on number of entries received.  Please note that musical repeats are not permitted.

Pieces can be performed from score or by memory. Playing by memory will not contribute to your score.

Class timings will be confirmed on May 2018 once all entries have been received. The event runs from 10am to 6pm.

Audience tickets: All audience members will require a ticket. Each ticket is valid only for one grade.

Certificates will be presented after each grade sections, on the day of the competition for the winners and runners up. On Saturday 23rd June 2018

Trophy and Gold medal for 1st place, Silver & Bronze medals for 2nd & 3rd places.
The trophies and medals will be presented at the Winner’s concert on Sunday 24th June 2018

1st, 2nd and 3rd place competitors will be required to play in the Winner’s concert on Sunday 24th June 2018

Competitive Class for Adult amateur pianists (over 18)

A competitive category for adult amateur pianists. Candidates are free to choose any two pieces from the graded books as well, from grade five to eight. Please bring a photocopy of the piece for the adjudicator and announce the name and composer before you play. If pieces are chosen outside graded exams, the equivalent level should be from grade five and over.  Maximum time given is nine minutes in total for the two pieces.   • Entries close once the maximum class number has been reached.
  • Tickets must be booked in the name of the competitor.
  • In order to provide a quiet environment for competitors, entry is prohibited to audience members under the age of five.

Rehearsals

If you like to Rehearse on the Grand piano which will be used for the competition, please notice you can book either 20, 40 or 60 minutes on any day you like before the competition. There will be NO rehearsals on that grand on the day the competition take place since it will be occupied for the whole day.

Please visit our website or contact us to book your hours at least a week in advance. Our advice is to book earlier because of the many candidates we have. The sooner the better.

NB Please note, that the rehearsals fee is non-refundable once booked. The hours are changeable if you call more than 72 hours before and if there is an available slot.

Worming up on competition day

On the day of the competition each competitor will be allowed 5 minutes to warm up. The rehearsals schedule will be published by the end of May 2018.  Please note, this will take place on a silent piano.
